The city has some of the most popular professional sports in the nation. The American Airlines Center (web, map) hosts the Dallas Mavericks (web) and Dallas Stars (web), along with other sporting events. Since 1937, the Cotton Bowl (web, map) has hosted an annual New Year's Day game, along with the Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma in October. The area is also home to America's Team the Dallas Cowboys (web, map), along with the Texas Rangers (web, map), Texas Motor Speedway (web, map), Lone Star Park (web, map) for horseracing, FC Dallas (web, map) and other sport franchises. Recreation
The Dallas Park and Recreation Department oversees approximately 21,782 park acres in 336 parks and provides a host of recreational activities for all ages at numerous recreational and athletic facilities. Sporting clubs for every kind of enthusiast abound, offering such activities as auto racing, bicycling, golf, tennis, lacrosse, gymnastics, scuba diving, sailing, soccer, skydiving, swimming and polo.
