Dallas Health Care
The Dallas metropolitan area is the center of one of the nation's best health care systems. In a recent U.S. News & World Report 2006 ranking, three Dallas hospitals were listed among the best of the best. Dallas Parkland Memorial Hospital (web, map), Baylor University Medical Center (web, map) and Children's Medical Center Dallas (web, map) made the grade.
Out of 5,189 medical centers, excluding military and veteran's hospitals and looking at the specialty areas ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics, only 176 hospitals scored high enough to rank in one or more of the 17 specialty areas.
Parkland Memorial Hospital was recognized in two categories. The hospital ranked 11th in gynecology, and 43rd in kidney disease.
Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas was ranked 37th in gynecology, 20th in digestive disorders, 21st in orthopedics, 44th in heart surgery, 43rd in neurology and neurosurgery, 39th in endocrinoligy and 34th in kidney disease.
Children's Medical Center was ranked 24th in the pediatrics category, and the Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation in Dallas was ranked 20th in the rehabilitation specialty.
Nationally recognized medical, dental and research schools in Dallas include the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (web, map), Texas A&M University system, Baylor College of Dentistry (web, map), Baylor University School of Nursing (web, map) and Texas Women's University Institute of Health Sciences (web, map).
State of the art medical facilities abound in Dallas. There are approximately 23 hospitals and 4,854 physicians practicing 78 different specialties.
